A Hot Air Balloon over the Arkansas River Valley in Southern Colorado

Arkansas Valley Balloon Festival

Last weekend I drove to southern Colorado for another hot air balloon festival at Rocky Ford near La Junta. After shooting the balloon launch I was joining chase vehicles to follow the balloons. The picture above was shot on the second morning of the event a few miles northeast of Rocky Ford where balloon pilots were looking for a place to land.

I combined that trip with some paddling on the John Martin Reservoir which turned to be quite challenging, but that's another story.

You are welcome to see my hot air balloon slide show on Flickr. You can also hit the refresh button to see another set of images in the two Flickr badges below. The first one displays my pictures shot on the sunny Sunday morning. There were some thin clouds and haze, so the light was not harsh.

I had checked the weather forecast before deciding to visit the Balloon Festival on Sunday. At least two other photographers from Fort Collins attended the event but on the cloudy Saturday morning. See a sample of the balloon pictures without sun in the second Flickr badge. Great pictures, but different perspective and colors.

Flames at the Hot Air Balloon Harvest - Greeley, Colorado, October 2007

One shot from the second day launch during the 2007 Hot Air Balloon Harvest in Greeley, Colorado

We visited the balloon festival only in the morning of the second day. A very colorful experience. I would expect much more spectators.

I spent most of the Sunday processing pictures. You can see two dozens of them as a slide show on Flickr.
